1) В названии обыгрывается сочетание американского дикого запада (Wild West) и престижного западного района Лондона Вест-Энд (West End), в котором сосредоточена театральная и концертная жизнь, музеи, фешенебельные магазины, модные рестораны и ночные клубы, и куда также ходят, чтобы «снять» девушку, о чем, кстати, и говорится в песне, в которой автор (Марк Нопфлер) рассказывает о своих впечатлениях от прогулки по западному Лондону, где есть и свой Итальянский квартал и свой Чайна-таун, куда он отправляется с тем самым лучшем «дружком» мужчины, который всегда при нём.
2) Игра слов: pick-up — звукосниматель для гитары, также — случайное знакомство, «съем».
3) Шафтсбери-авеню (Shaftesbury Avenue) — улица в центре Лондона, известная как «Лондонский Бродвей», является главной театральной улицей Лондона, и на которой также начинается лондонский Чайна-таун.
